Hampi Trails
Hampi is famous for its ruins belonging to the medieval kingdom of Vijayanagara. It is declared a World Heritage site.
The temples, Monolithic sculptures and monuments are a major part of Hampi attract travellers because of their excellent workmanship. The style of architecture found at Hampi reflects the splendour of the Vijayanagara Empire. The rugged landscape adds to the historic ambience of this site.
Virupaksha Temple
Virupaksha Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva.
This temple was constructed by Lakkana Dandesha’s assistance
who was a commander under King Deva Raya II.

It started off as a little shrine and later developed into a huge complex during the Vijayanagara rule.There is evidence that indicates additions were made to Virupaksha temple during the later years of the Hoysala and Vijayanagara.
​
The Virupaksha temple has survived through the years.It is still pristine It attracts large groups of people in the month of December.The yearly chariot festival is conducted in the month of February.
Hemakuta Temples
On the southern side of Virupkasha Temple stands the Hemakuta Hill,
its gentle slopes dotted with a large number of temples, archways and
pavilions.It is said that the hill was once fortified with stone walls,
the ruins of which can still be seen.

The trikuta Shiva temples on the east have an inscription recording that Vira Kampiladeva,son of Mummadi Singeya Nayaka,built the
Sivalaya and installed in it three Lingas .
Lakshmi Narasimha
This Magnificent Monolithic Lakshimi Narasimha stands at height of
6.7 Mts.It is one of the finest example of Vijayanagara Sculpture.

The Statue was Consecrated by Krishnabhatta at the behest of King
Krishnadevaraya in1526 CE.In later half of Sixteenth Century It was damaged by Mughal Invaders..
Vittala Temple
The Vittala temple is the finest example of Vijayanagara Style of
Art and Architecture.Vittala is the aspect of Lord Vishnu.Which was Constructed under the Patronage of King Devaraya II in 1422-46 CE.
Hundred Pillared Mandapam and Sabha Mantapa added during the
Krishnadevaraya’s reign 1509 - 1529 CE.
The Stone Chariot, At the entrance is a replicate of wooden Chariot It is stunning achievement of Vijayanagar Sculptors.

Lotus Mahal
Lotus Mahal is an important monument in Hampi.Lotus Mahal is a
virtual air conditioned residence built for one of the two wives of
Vijayanagara ruler Krishnadevaraya.

Also known as Kamal Mahal and Chitrangini Mahal, the Lotus temple was built in the 16th century in the Zenana Enclosure that houses quite a few interesting structures like the Basement of the Queen's Palace,
treasury Building, Water Pavilion, and the Watch Towers.
